The All-Party Parliamentary Human Rights Group (PHRG) was pleased to attend this meeting with Mexican civil society with the new Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn MP.

Among the issues discussed were grave violations committed by police and armed forces in the country, torture and enforced disappearances, as well as widespread impunity for abuses.

The situation for human rights defenders who challenge these abuses is very grave, as they face attacks and intimidation for carrying out their work. One of the human rights defenders present had two of his brothers disappeared in 2008, without proper investigation.

The PHRG works extensively on raising the human rights situation in Mexico through the UK Parliament and will continue to do so where possible.
