14/01/2015: Strategic Roundtable for MPs & Peers & FCO on Tsege case

The All-Party Parliamentary Human Rights Group organised this meeting in order to discuss the case of Andargachew Tsege, a British national imprisoned virtually incommunicado in Ethiopia since June 2014.

The meeting was attended by UK Parliamentarians, representatives from Reprieve and REDRESS, representatives from the FCO and relatives of Tsege. The PHRG would like to thank Jeremy Corbyn MP for chairing this event and all the participants for their constructive contributions.

The meeting raised a number of issues relating to the case of Andy Tsege, including concerns about his treatment in prison, his medical condition and current and future legal proceedings. It is of particular concern that no one yet seems to know where he is being held. The participants also discussed how UK Parliamentarians and UK Government official could provide further assistance to Mr. Tsege.

The PHRG will continue to follow developments on this case and work with relevant interlocutors to raise it in Parliament. The PHRG will also be assisting with plans for a small Parliamentary visit to Ethiopia to discuss the case with authorities there and to see Mr. Tsege in prison.
