5/2/2015: Meeting with the Ethiopian Embassy in London to discuss the case of Andargachew Tsege

The All-Party Parliamentary Human Rights Group (PHRG) organised this meeting to discuss the case of British citizen, Andargachew Tsege, who faces the death penalty in Ethiopia and has been held in incommunicado detention since July 2014.

Jeremy Corbyn MP and Lord Dholakia would like to thank His Excellency Ambassador Berhanu Kebede for taking the time to discuss the case and for his engagement in full and frank discussion.

Mr Corbyn and Lord Dholakia were, however, disappointed that a delegation of UK parliamentarians would not be allowed at this time to visit Mr Tsege in Ethiopia, especially given that Mr Corbyn is his constituency MP.

Mr Corbyn has since formally requested that the Ethiopian Government allow Mr Tsege’s lawyer Clive-Stafford-Smith to visit him but is still awaiting a reply.

The PHRG will continue to raise Mr Tsege’s case with the relevant interlocutors and to monitor any developments on his situation closely.
