The All-Party Parliamentary Human Rights Group (PHRG) met with H.E. the Indonesian Ambassador to the UK, Tekhu Mohammad Hamzah Thayeb, in order to discuss the current political and human rights situation in Indonesia, following recent Parliamentary and Presidential elections.

The meeting was chaired by Ann Clwyd MP.

The main points/issues raised during the meeting were as follows:

• After the recent election win by Joko Widodo, the Ambassador affirmed Indonesia’s intention to work with the international community to improve Indonesia’s democratic governance.
• Blasphemy laws and treatment of religious minorities more generally.
• Agreement to have a UK PHRG delegation visit Indonesia in 2015.
