The All-Party Parliamentary Human Rights Group (PHRG) was pleased to meet with a delegation from the Bahraini National Institute for Human Rights (NIHR).

Among the issues discussed were:

• The Bahraini cases brought before the IPU’s Committee of the Human Rights of Parliamentarians, including those of Jawad Al-Fairooz and Matar Matar.
• The case of opposition leader Sheikh Ali Salman, particularly the need for fair trial standards to be respected.
• Statelessness – with considerable agreement on this point.
• The possibility of the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture visiting the country.

The PHRG continues to work with the relevant interlocutors to raise human rights issues in Bahrain through the UK Parliament.
